Tinker Air Force Base is named in honor of Major General Clarence L. Tinker. [2] An Osage from Pawhuska, Oklahoma, he received his wings in 1921. [3] He was a graduate of Wentworth Military Academy who went on to become the first major general of Native American descent in U.S. Army history.
It is assigned to the Tenth Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and is stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. On 20 September 1999, VQ-4 took delivery of its first E-6B. The E-6B contains upgraded systems that enable it to perform the USSTRATCOM Airborne Command Post (ABNCP) "Looking Glass" mission.
