In 1954–55, a third classroom wing (known as Block C in 2016) was added to the site, to the north of and parallel with Block A. Plans are usually "scale drawings", meaning that the plans are drawn at a specific ratio relative to the actual size of the place or object. Various scales may be used for different drawings in a set. For example, a floor plan may be drawn at 1:48 (or 1/4"=1'-0") whereas a detailed view may be drawn at 1:24 (or 1/2"=1'-0").
In architecture and building engineering, a floor plan is a technical drawing to scale, showing a view from above, of the relationships between rooms, spaces, traffic patterns, and other physical features at one level of a structure. Dimensions are usually drawn between the walls to specify room sizes and wall lengths.
A 1921 plan of the sectional school building shows it as a long, weatherboard-clad structure, highset on tall stumps, with a Dutch-gable roof and two circular roof vents. A teachers annexe was attached to the verandah on the northern side, and included one space for the head teacher and another for the assistant teachers.

A Nelson Two-Storey Block under construction at Mairehau High School in July 1960. Makora (now Makoura) College, a Nelson Two-Story school, in 1969.. The Nelson Two-Storey is a development on the Nelson Single-Storey design and is characterised by its two-storey H-shaped classroom blocks, with stairwells at each end and a large ground-floor toilet and cloak area on one side.
As the new buildings were completed, classes moved there from the older school buildings. By 1957, the temporary classroom building was being used to store library books and as a boys locker room, since there was a new commercial room under Block B. Later, the temporary classroom building became a storeroom for the groundskeeper.
