The Chutia people (Pron: / ˈ s ʊ ð iː j ɑː / or Sutia) are an ethnic group that are native to Assam and historically associated with the Chutia kingdom. This book written by Digeram Deori in 1935 clearly mentions Deori to be a part of Chutia community at that period. He writes, "They(Chutias) had their own culture, literature and civilization. They(Chutias) even had a custom of offering worship to God, by a particular class of people, who were chosen for the purpose only.
