The Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) was established in 1948 as the Dhaka Art School. [1] It was the first art school in the region and became the main centre of art and cultural practice. Since 1956 it has been situated in Shahbag , Dhaka , close to the Bangladesh National Museum .
It is the national academy of fine and performing arts. The academy was established through an act of Parliament in 1974 as a statutory organization under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. But subsequently the Act of 1974 of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was amended through a new act of Parliament in 1989.

Bulbul Lalitakala Academy (now known as Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts or BAFA) is an institution of fine arts established in Dhaka on 17 May 1955, founded by Begum Afroza Bulbul, wife of Bulbul Chowdhury, under the financial support of the government.

Graphic Arts Institute was established in 1967 in Dhaka, East Pakistan by Muhammad Azam Khan, the governor general of East Pakistan and Waqar Ahmed, Director General of Technical Education Directorate. The first head of the institute was the South Dakota University trained R. K. Mollah.
The National Art Gallery's two storied building, constructed on the National Academy of Fine and Performing Art grounds, exhibits ways to prevent aging due to environmental factors and artwork from their permanent and temporary collection. There are also rooms for educational purposes, such as lectures about art preservation. [2]
