A member of the Republican Party, Hogan served on the Jacksonville City Council from 1991 to 1999. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives twice, in 2000 and 2002. [1] [2] Between 2003 and 2011, Hogan was the Duval County Tax Collector. [3] He ran for mayor in Jacksonville in 2011, losing to Alvin Brown.
Francis Kernan was born in 1859 in Jacksonville, Florida on 19 October 1859 as son of John A. and Elizabeth C. Kernan. He entered the United States Military Academy in 1877 and graduated in 1881. [ 1 ]
Mayor Hans Tanzler had just taken office on June 23, 1967; however, consolidation meant that he would have to run again for the office of mayor for the newly consolidated city government. Tanzler was re-elected and took office on March 1, 1968. Since that time mayors have been elected every four years.
