Location. Old Orchard Beach station is an Amtrak intercity train station in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. It features a covered platform, and is served by Amtrak's Downeaster service seasonally between May and October. [2] The station is located next to the Pan Am Railways mainline, formerly the Western Route mainline of the Boston & Maine Railroad.
On December 14, 2001, Amtrak's Downeaster service began operating from Boston to Portland, Maine. [3] The Downeaster runs via the lower Lowell Line and the Wildcat Branch then the Western Route, with a stop at Haverhill. Around this time, some rush-hour Haverhill trains began using the Wildcat Branch to avoid interference from Reading local trains.
In 1993, the town of Wells voted to build a transportation center for intercity buses and then-planned Amtrak service. [2] Downeaster service began on December 15, 2001, with only a platform at Wells. The station building was constructed in 2002 and opened in 2003. [2]
