The Lavender Federation Trail is a long distance walking trail in the eastern Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia. It extends 325 kilometres (202 mi) from Murray Bridge to Clare . [ 2 ] It is named after Terry Lavender OAM and development started in 1999.
Mount Lofty, elevation 710 m (2,330 ft) AHD) is the highest point in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges It is located about 15 km (9.3 mi) east of the Adelaide city centre , within the Cleland National Park in the Adelaide Hills area of South Australia .

It conserves a significant area of natural bushland on the Adelaide Hills face, including Mount Lofty Summit and Waterfall Gully.
The part of the ranges south of and including the Barossa Valley are commonly known as the South Mount Lofty Ranges, and the highest part of this section is the summit of Mount Lofty (710 m or 2,330 ft). The part of the ranges nearest Adelaide is called the Adelaide Hills and, further north, the Barossa Range.
The Mawson Trail is a long-distance cycling and walking trail [1] in South Australia starting just east of Adelaide in the Adelaide Hills and extending almost 900 kilometres (560 mi) to Blinman in the Flinders Ranges. [2] It is suitable for mountain bikes. [3]
The trail was first suggested by Warren Bonython in 1969 but design was stalled by several years due to government politics and issues with private land owners. The first 50 kilometres of the track was laid through the Mount Lofty Ranges in 1978 after responsibility for the track was handed to the Department of Recreation and Sport.
It features one walking trail that is part of the Mount Lofty to Norton Summit portion of the Heysen and Yurrebilla trails. The official brochure suggests that the conservation park offers ‘excellent opportunities for bushwalking, birdwatching, photography, painting and nature study." [5]
