Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) is a public school district that covers Seminole County, Florida. As of September 2006 [update] , the total district wide enrollment was 66,351 students. [ 3 ]
For the 2005-2006, 2006–2007, 2007–2008, and 2008-2009 school years, Crooms was rated an A. [3] Crooms Academy was also recently ranked as one of U.S. News' Top 100 Best High Schools in the country for 2008, moving from a bronze to silver medal.
In the 2007–08, 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11, and 2012–13 school year, the Florida Department of Education gave Seminole an "A" ranking. This was an improvement from 2006–07's "C." [ 5 ] Newsweek rated Seminole #303 in their list of the top 1,200 schools in the country in 2006. [ 5 ]

Although, the school first opened in 1997 as Winter Springs High School, the school had first opened its doors as a temporary home to the student body, faculty and staff of nearby Lake Howell High School the previous year while the Lake Howell campus underwent major renovations. A.W. Epps was the school's first principal.
