Eastgate Square is an indoor shopping mall in Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The mall is bounded by Queenston Road (South), Centennial Parkway (East), Delawana Drive (North) and Kenora Avenue (West).
It is one of five planned rapid transit lines which form Hamilton's proposed BLAST network. The 14 km (8.7 mi), 17-stop route is planned to extend from McMaster University to Eastgate Square via downtown Hamilton. [2] The LRT was originally funded by the province of Ontario in 2015 but was then cancelled in 2019 due to rising costs.
Land acquisition and building demolition for a 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) line from McMaster University to Eastgate Square had started. [6] On December 16, 2019, the Government of Ontario announced it was cancelling its funding for the BLAST system's B-Line LRT, due to cost overruns. [7]
In 2013, the former dairy was torn down for redevelopment. Eastgate Square Mall straddles the former border between Hamilton and Stoney Creek. In 1965, the Stoney Creek Little League team became the first (and as of 2018, only) Canadian team to play in the World Championship Game. (It lost to Windsor Locks, Connecticut, 3–1.)
