Winthrop is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Stockholm in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census , it had a population of 510. The community is in northeastern St. Lawrence County, in the northeastern part of the town of Stockholm.
The most prominent buildings are the cluster of municipal and religious buildings around Metcalf Square: the Town Hall (1929) and Library (1898) are both Renaissance Revival structures, while the police station (formerly a post office) is a Colonial Revival building from 1932, and the Methodist Church is a Colonial/Classical Revival from 1930. Nassau Hall is a historic mansion on the grounds of the Muttontown Preserve in Muttontown, New York. It was built in 1904 for Bronson Winthrop and was known as Muttontown Meadows. [1] It was the first commission of Delano and Aldrich in the area. Its exterior walls were modeled after Mount Vernon, and was on an estate of 183 acres. [2]

[ 1 ] For the 2010 census, the area was counted as two separate CDPs: Brasher Falls (pop. 669) in the Town of Brasher and Winthrop (pop. 510) in the Town of Stockholm .
