British designer Alexander McQueen designed 36 womenswear collections under his eponymous fashion label during a career that lasted from 1992 until his death in 2010. Lee Alexander McQueen was born on 17 March 1969 at University Hospital Lewisham in Lewisham, London, [5] to Ronald and Joyce McQueen, the youngest of six children. [6] [7] His Scottish father worked as a London taxi driver, and his mother a social science teacher.
On 27 July 2006, the company launched a lower-priced diffusion line McQ. [27] The line, separate from the main house, carried upscale men's and women's ready-to-wear and accessories, was exclusively designed by Lee Alexander McQueen, manufactured and distributed worldwide by SINV SpA under the terms of a five-year license agreement with Alexander McQueen.
