In February 2015, Cardinal Newman's new sixth form centre, Newman College, was opened by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor (1932–2017). It provides classrooms, a lecture theatre, a library, a common room and offices. Transition to a Sixth Form College. In 1975, the grammar school system was abolished, and the institution transitioned into a sixth form college, which is known today as BHASVIC. [4] The college moved out of local government control in 1992 under the Further and Higher Education Act and became an independent institution.
Cardinal Newman College is a Catholic sixth form college close to the centre of Preston, Lancashire, England. The college was graded "outstanding" by Ofsted in February 2023. [1] The college has undergone significant new build and refurbishment since 2008.
The school has a student age range of 11–19 years old and is Voluntary Aided. Newman College (before the name change) was founded in 1958. Half of the school's students have English as a second language. Newman Catholic College also was one of the first Schools in London to obtain the School of Sanctuary Award on the 19th of June 2019.
