Omeprazole, sold under the brand names Prilosec and Losec, among others, is a medication used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. [1] It is also used to prevent upper gastrointestinal bleeding in people who are at high risk. [1]
In general, proton pump inhibitors are well tolerated, and the incidence of short-term adverse effects is relatively low. The range and occurrence of adverse effects are similar for all of the PPIs, though they have been reported more frequently with omeprazole. This may be due to its longer availability and, hence, clinical experience.
Ilaprazole (trade name Noltec) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used in the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD) [1] and duodenal ulcer. [2] [3] It is available in strengths of 5, 10, and 20 mg.

[2] [3] A formulation with levomefolic acid (vitamin B 9) has also been marketed (brand names Beyaz, Safyral, others), with similar indications.
Only one compound proved superior to omeprazole and that was the (S)-(−)-isomer, esomeprazole, which was developed as the magnesium salt. Esomeprazole magnesium (brand name Nexium) received its first approval in 2000 and provided more pronounced inhibition of acid secretion and less inter-patient variation compared to omeprazole.
So Lexapro 20 mg side effects are the same as the side effects of 10 mg of Lexapro, but the 20 mg dose may have increased effects. But there’s no need for alarm.
Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea. [3] Serious side effects may include osteoporosis, low blood magnesium, Clostridioides difficile infection, anaphylaxis, and pneumonia. [3] Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding is of unclear safety. [5] It works by blocking H + /K +-ATPase in the parietal cells of the stomach. [3]
