Macross (マクロス, Makurosu) is a Japanese science fiction mecha anime media franchise/media mix, created by Studio Nue (most prominently mecha designer, writer and producer Shōji Kawamori) and Artland in 1982.
Haruhiko Mikimoto (美樹本 晴彦, Mikimoto Haruhiko, born Haruhiko Satō (佐藤晴彦, Satō Haruhiko), August 28, 1959 in Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese anime character designer, illustrator and manga artist. Mostly active during the 1980s, during that decade he rose to prominence and is considered one of the top character designers of his time.
Later he established the Tenjin Studio Ltd. where he began working on plastic model box art, video game software and DVD cover art, illustrations, etc., the best known being in the Hasegawa Macross series, the Bandai MG Gundam series, Konami's Gradius V videogame, Space Battleship Yamato Fact File illustrations, etc.

The VF-1 was created between 1980 and 1982 by Japanese mecha designer Shoji Kawamori with contributions by his Studio Nue partner Kazutaka Miyatake.The VF-1 Valkyrie was to be the centerpiece mecha design for the anime series The Super Dimension Fortress Macross which aired between 1982 and 1983. Macross Zero (マクロス ゼロ, Makurosu Zero) is an anime prequel OVA to The Super Dimension Fortress Macross released for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Macross franchise during 2002 in Japan. It was created and directed by Shoji Kawamori and produced by Satelight.
Crystal Art Studio would change their name to Studio Nue in 1974. They were known as the co-creators of the Macross franchise along with Artland (co-production of the first series) and Big West Advertising (financial funding). Mechanical designer Shōji Kawamori is a notable member of Studio Nue and is remembered as the key creator of Macross. [3]
