Ikono is a Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, located in the South South of Nigeria. [2] It is bounded at the North, by Ini Local Government Area, South by Abak and Uyo Local Government Areas, East by Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area and West by Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara Local Government Areas.
The communities/villages are grouped into one of the five clans of Ikono, Ikpe, Iwerri, Itu Mbon Uso and Nkari. The clans made up the local government. The Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers law, cap 134 laws of Akwa Ibom State and the gazettes published pursuant thereto clearly list all the recognized villages/communities and the grouped clans.
Ika (Ika-Annang; also Ika Ibom) is a Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. [2] [3] The headquarters of the Ika local government area is Urua Inyang.Ika is subdivided into clans, Ito, Achan and Ikananang (Odoro) and over 50 villages in totality with an identical cultural display called Akakum/Asakom nicknamed Afum (meaning wind).

Pre-colonial Ndoki covers 450 square kilometres (170 sq mi) with rich farmland which borders Imo River on the East and Aba River in the South bounded by Ika and Obong villages. [2] It's subgroup include Akwete, Azumini and Ohambele. [3] Today, Ndoki people exist in Abia State, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.
It is at this juncture that Ikono Ibom moved to Ikot Oku Ikono village now in the Uyo Local Government Area, which is referred to as Ikono Ibom Uyo, a clan carved out of the main Ikono Ibom. [15]: 12 Iman Ibom moved to Ekom Iman, now in Etinan Local Government Area and Nsit Ibom moved to Afia Nsit now in Nsit Ibom.
Akwa Ibom was split from Cross River State in 1987 with her capital Uyo and with 31 local government areas. Of the 36 states , Akwa Ibom is the 30th largest in area and fifteenth most populous , with an estimated population of nearly 5.5 million as of 2016. [ 5 ]
By June 2010, Akwa Ibom State had 116 traditional rulers with official certificates from the state. They had received new cars on their appointment, among other perks. The chairman of the Akwa Ibom Council of Chiefs said that in return, the traditional fathers were responsible for preventing robberies and kidnappings in their domains. [18]
