Holley Brothers Company advertisement for carburetors in the Automobile Trade Journal, 1916.. Holley's history starts in Bradford, Pennsylvania, in 1896 when teenage brothers George (1878–1963) and Earl Holley built a small, one-cylinder, three-wheeled vehicle they dubbed the "Runabout", with a top speed of 30 mph.
It used a 0.5 in (12.7 mm) lift solid-lifter camshaft, fabricated-steel-tube exhaust, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, producing 275 hp (205 kW) (1 hp/cu in). The car so equipped was called the "D-Dart," a reference to its classification in NHRA D-stock for drag racing, which was the car's only intended purpose.
The 235-horsepower version had argent silver valve covers and air cleaner. A dealer-installed "M 260" engine kit was released in January 1956. The kit consisted of a hotter camshaft, revised cylinder heads, and an intake manifold mounting two four-barrel carburetors. The kit was advertised as boosting the Mercury 312 V8 to 260 hp (264 PS; 194 kW).
The 1982 model year brought a new 5.0 High Output variation of the 302. Manual-transmission equipped Mustangs and Mercury Capris were first equipped with two-barrel carburetors (1982), then a four-barrel Holley carburetor (1983–85). The block was fitted with revised, taller lifter bosses to accept roller lifters, and a steel camshaft in 1985 ...
The first iteration of the 305, the LG3 was introduced in 1976. This variant used a Rochester 2GC carburetor from 1976 to 1978. In 1979, the more fuel-efficient Rochester Dual-Jet two-barrel carburetor replaced the older 2GC. This change also resulted in a drop in power to 130 hp (97 kW) and 125 hp (93 kW) for California emissions cars.
The Autolite 2100 is a two venturi (barrel) carburetor manufactured in multiple variants by Autolite from 1957 to 1973. Eight sizes ranging from 190 cfm to 424 cfm were made, all with synchronized venturis, variously with manual, electric, or automatic hot-air chokes.
