Lamar High School is a comprehensive public secondary school located in Houston, Texas, United States.It is a part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Lamar High School, was established in 1936 in memory of Mirabeau B. Lamar (1798–1859), a leader in the Texas Revolution and the second President of the Republic of Texas.
In 2009, Lamar CISD was named an H.E.B. Excellence in Education School District. [8] Dr. Thomas Randle served as the district superintendent from 2001 until his retirement in 2021. During his tenure, LCISD grew from approximately 16,000 students to 34,000 students. [9] There were 36,345 students in 2020, and 44,385 students in 2024. [10]
The school does not automatically take in students from the area; students from the area around the school are zoned to Bellaire High School [1] and Lamar High School. [2] Challenge High School has roughly 450 students, with an incoming freshmen class of 125-130 students each year.
