The Indian Military Academy (IMA) is one of the oldest military academies in India, and trains officers for the Indian Army. Located in Dehradun , Uttarakhand , it was established in 1932 following a recommendation by a military committee set up under the chairmanship of General (later Field Marshal ) Sir Philip Chetwode .
The Indian Medical Association is one of the 27 founder members of the World Medical Association, [7] joining in 1948. [2] The IMA left the organization in 1985 due to the WMA's retention of South Africa, then a practitioner of apartheid. The IMA rejoined the WMA in 1993. [2]
The Short Service Regular Commission has evolved into the Short Service Commission, and the OTA has continued to train officers for these commissions. The school was granted permanent status in 1985. On 1 January 1988, the school was renamed as the Officers Training Academy (OTA), on a pair with the NDA and IMA.
