Dutch national basketball team (2013–2016) The Vijf Meihal (English: 5 May Hall ) is a now-closed sports complex located in the Dutch city of Leiden . [ 1 ] It was used as a sports arena since 1968, as the former home base of professional basketball club ZZ Leiden , who used it up until 2024 when they moved to the Sportcomplex 1574 .
As a member of the senior Dutch national basketball team, Akerboom led the 1977 EuroBasket in scoring, averaging 27 points per game. His performance earned him a selection to the EuroBasket All-Tournament Team. Akerboom is 2nd on the all-time list of games played for the senior Dutch national team, with 182 appearances.

From 1945 to 2021, the Dutch basketball champion came from the Dutch Basketball League (formerly the Eredivisie). Since 2022, the champion is decided through the BNXT League; this league features Belgian teams as well but organises a playoffs to determine the Dutch champions. Two teams have won a treble so far, Donar in 2016 and ZZ Leiden in 2023.
