HDR10 Media Profile, more commonly known as HDR10, is an open high-dynamic-range video (HDR) standard announced on August 27, 2015, by the Consumer Electronics Association. [1] It is the most widespread HDR format. [2] HDR10 is not backward compatible with SDR. It includes HDR static metadata but not dynamic metadata.
There are a number of different HDR formats, including HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. HDR10 is the most common format, and is supported by all HDR-TVs. Dolby Vision is a more advanced format that offers some additional features, such as scene-by-scene mastering. HDR10+ is a newer format that is similar to Dolby Vision, but is royalty-free.
HDR10+ [1] is a high dynamic range (HDR) video technology that adds dynamic metadata [2] to HDR10 source files. The dynamic metadata are used to adjust and optimize each frame of the HDR video to the consumer display's capabilities in a way based on the content creator's intentions.
HDR displays refers to displays compatible with that technology. HDR formats refers to formats such as HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG. HDR video refers to a video encoded in an HDR format. Thoses HDR video have a greater bit depth, luminance and color volume than standard dynamic range (SDR) video which uses a conventional gamma curve. [22]

[1] [2] [3] It covers content creation, distribution, and playback.[1] [4] [5] [6] It includes dynamic metadata that define the aspect ratio and adjust the picture based on a display's capabilities on a per-shot or even per-frame basis, optimizing the presentation.

[7] PQ is the basis of HDR video formats (such as Dolby Vision, [2] [9] HDR10 [10] and HDR10+ [11]) and is also used for HDR still picture formats. [12] [13] PQ is not backward compatible with the BT.1886 EOTF (i.e. the gamma curve of SDR), while HLG is compatible.
Rec. 2100 is an ITU-R Recommendation released in July 2016 that defines high dynamic range (HDR) formats for both HDTV 1080p and 4K/8K UHDTV resolutions. [54] These formats use the same color primaries as Rec. 2020, but with different transfer functions for HDR use. Rec. 2100 does not support the YcCbcCrc scheme of Rec. 2020.
