Chinook is a computer program that plays checkers (also known as draughts). It was developed between the years 1989 to 2007 at the University of Alberta, by a team led by Jonathan Schaeffer and consisting of Rob Lake, Paul Lu, Martin Bryant, and Norman Treloar.

The white hul pieces are placed on points 1 to 12, and the black hul pieces are placed on points 27 to 38. White moves first to begin the game. As in Turkish draughts, a hul may only move one step orthogonally forward or sideways (left or right) in a single turn. A hul promotes to a "tobit" (the equivalent of a king in draughts).
