The village is located around 12 miles (19 km) north of Ipswich and 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Wickham Market. The village church is dedicated to St Mary. [ 2 ] Two Sites of Special Scientific Interest are located in the parish, High House Meadows and Monewden Meadows , both areas of unimproved lowland grass meadow.
The village primary school, which also served surrounding villages, opened in 1853 and closed in 1986, [5] and a number of its former pupils are still resident in the village. Like many small villages, Bredfield was unable to sustain not only the school but also a privately run grocery shop, the last one also closing in 1986.
