Richardson Independent School District (RISD or Richardson ISD) is an independent school district in northern Dallas County, Texas, based in Richardson.The 46-square-mile (120 km 2) district serves the Dallas County portions of Richardson; [a] the Lake Highlands, Northwood Hills, and Prestonwood neighborhoods of Dallas; and small portions of Garland.

Opened in 1969 as "Lake Highlands Stadium", RISD's Wildcat-Ram Stadium is located on the western border of the campus. The stadium is shared with L.V. Berkner High School as the Berkner campus is home to a natatorium but not a full size stadium. The facility seats approximately 9,000 and was upgraded to field turf in 2000.
For the first year, students were housed on the campus of the now-closed Richardson Junior High School. The current facility on Spring Valley Road opened for the 1970–1971 school year; it served grades 9–11 in its opening year. Grades 10–12 were then served until the end of the 2004–2005 school year.
An academic year typically includes a fall and spring semester, with a shorter optional summer session. Many also have a short optional winter session or a wheel-rotation schedule year-round. Some operate on a trimester calendar.
Spring High School, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Spring Independent School District. Spring High School's mascot is the lion. School colors are black, green, and white. Oren Chappell was principal of the school in the early 1980s. Gloria Marshall was the principal of Spring High School from 1985 until June 2007.
Planet Ford Stadium, located at 23802 Cypresswood Dr. in Spring, is the home field for the Spring, Dekaney and Westfield high school football teams. The district reached an agreement with Randall Reed's Planet Ford for the naming rights to the stadium and adjoining community center known as the Randall Reed Center.
