The state fair moved to Des Moines permanently in 1878. The fairgrounds were initially located on the west side of the city between East 38th Street on the east, East 42nd Street on the west, Center Street on the north and Grand Avenue on the south. [3] In 1886 the fairgrounds were moved to the east side of town on University Avenue.
The fairgrounds are spread over 450 acres (1.8 km 2), including 160 acres (0.65 km 2) of campsites. Located at East 30th Street and East University Avenue, it is a 10 minute drive east from downtown Des Moines. [8] The fairgrounds are filled with carnival rides and vendors during the Fair.

County Fair – opened 1980, According to park operators, this is Adventureland's most popular games area. County Fair is a rather large games area and features many popular games, including Speedball, Derby Downs, Center Ring and Skee Ball. County Fair is unique in that the area is very long, whereas the other two areas are more circular.
