In 2009, the band shortened their name to simply The Rocketboys after relocating to Austin, Texas, where the band's members currently reside. [1] In early 2009, drummer (and creator of P. Ellis Drums) Philip Ellis left the band. Replacing Ellis was Alex Bhore, former drummer of The New Frontiers.
It is the follow-up to the highly successful The Seldom Seen Kid; like its predecessor, the album was self-produced by the band in Blueprint Studios, Manchester. The album was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. [3] It was supported by the Build a Rocket Boys! Tour. The first single, "Neat Little Rows", was released on 27 February 2011.
They were formed by vocalist Stiv Bators, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Zero, bassist Jeff Magnum, lead guitarist Cheetah Chrome, and drummer Johnny Blitz in 1975, with the latter two having splintered from the band Rocket From The Tombs. The original Dead Boys released two studio albums, Young, Loud and Snotty, and We Have Come for Your Children. [1]
However, Richard Lloyd was replaced in the band prior to the tour's launch, and Cheetah Chrome announced his departure from Rocket From the Tombs on December 30, 2011, leaving David Thomas and Craig Willis Bell as the only remaining original members.
