Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) is a worldwide religious organization founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda, the Indian guru who authored Autobiography of a Yogi. Before moving to the United States, Yogananda began his spiritual work in India in 1917 and named it Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS).
The temple is then dedicated as a "House of the Lord," after which only members twelve years of age and older [2] who hold a valid temple recommend are permitted to enter. Weekly worship services are not held in temples, but ordinances that are part of Latter-day Saint worship are performed within temples.

The walls are quartz monzonite (which has the appearance of granite) from Little Cottonwood Canyon, located twenty miles (thirty-two kilometres) southeast of the temple. It is the largest temple in the church, featuring a large underground area. The walls of the Temple are nine feet thick at the base and six feet thick at the top.

The LDS Church commonly uses images of the statue in official church media, such as the Internet site churchofjesuschrist.org. On April 4, 2020, church president Russell M. Nelson announced the church would include the Christus, together with other elements, in a new "symbol" or "emblem" to represent the Church in its literature, news, and events.
