In 1922 the school was handed over to the Management of the Jaffna Hindu management Board and renamed Chavakachcheri Hindu College. CHC got its 'C', 'B' and 'A' grades in the years 1934, 1945 and 1949 respectively. It was promoted to that of a national school. in 1993.
Chavakachcheri was badly devastated in the Sri Lankan Civil War. Today, the government and the people of Chavakachcheri have rebuilt the town, but the population remains drastically lower than the pre-war years. The 111-year-old Chavakachcheri Hindu College, a high school, is a leading centre of education in the town. [1]
