Paperhouse Records was a British independent record label which operated from 1990 to 1993. The label was a short-lived joint venture by Glass Records owner David E. Barker and Fire Records owner Clive Solomon. It is named after "Paperhouse", opening track on Tago Mago, the 1971 album by Krautrock band Can.
After a split single with Bevis Frond, they moved on to Paperhouse Records for their next album, Bad Orb, Whirling Ball (1990). The band continued into the mid-1990s, with Dinosaur Jr 's Don Fleming joining for a time, [ 3 ] before splitting up, with Parker and Mogan forming The Del-Bloods and later White Bitch .

The band recorded an album for Glass but it remained unreleased due to the label's financial problems, and when the label dissolved, its founder David E. Barker signed The Badgeman to his new venture Paperhouse (along with Walkingseeds, Teenage Fanclub, Phil Shoenfelt, Don Fleming and Gumball), a subsidiary of Fire Records of London.
The band originally intended to release the album themselves, but a tape of the recordings found its way to the two newly established independent record labels Paperhouse and Matador. [10] [11] Both labels ended up releasing the album, Paperhouse in the UK on 11 June 1990, and Matador in the US on 2 August 1990. [12]

They moved on to Fire Records, who reissued the band's debut album on their Paperhouse label; this was followed by 24 Days at Catastrofe Café in September 1993. [1] The band split in 1996. [ 1 ]
