Robb orders Roose and the Bolton forces to hold Harrenhal while the rest of his army rides to Riverunn. One of Roose's men-at-arms, Locke, captures the escaped Jaime Lannister and his escort Brienne of Tarth, cutting off Jaime's hand in the process, before bringing the two to Harrenhal.

Ramsay Bolton (portrayed by Iwan Rheon) is the cruel, sadistic, and cunning illegitimate son of Roose Bolton. He is first introduced to the series when Theon Greyjoy captures Winterfell, and Roose Bolton commands him to retake the fortress, ostensibly to hand it back to the Starks. However, Ramsay's army ransacks the castle and leaves it as a ruin.
In return, Jaime stops the Brave Companions from raping Brienne. The two prisoners are taken to Harrenhal, where Jaime reveals that he killed the Mad King Aerys II Targaryen to stop him from burning King's Landing. After being delivered to Roose Bolton at Harrenhal, and having his stump treated by the disgraced former maester Qyburn, a delirious Jaime reveals to Brienne that he killed "Mad" King Aerys Targaryen to prevent him from destroying King's Landing with wildfire. Robb executes Lord Karstark after the latter murders two captive Lannister boys.
Locke delivers Jaime and Brienne to Lord Roose Bolton, who frees Brienne and sends Jaime to Qyburn, a former maester thrown out of the Citadel for human experimentation, who treats Jaime's amputation. At the baths, Jaime tells Brienne of Robert's Rebellion, and the "Mad King" Aerys Targaryen's plot to burn King's Landing with caches of wildfire.
