On subjective performance criteria, I no longer trust their recommendations. Their mattress recommendation was a disaster for me - painfully uncomfortable and difficult to return. Their recommendations for consumer products that I understand well (audio equipment, TVs, computers) are questionable.
Some of these brands have been acquired by large corporations over the last few years. Not that it's inherently a bad thing, but maybe keep an eye on quality and regularly review any independent analysis that you can find. I personally try to avoid Nestlé products, so was bummed to find out they've gobbled up some of the good ones.

Grow up, and stop caring so much about the products that other people buy. You're free to buy whatever products you want. If you hate Apple so much, don't buy their products. Mocking other people for buying their products says much more about you than them. Apple didn't become a $2 trillion company because their products suck and no one wants them.
Bottom line, though, Consumer Reports is a fine, honest, upstanding organization that provides real value for money, and if you want to know their recommendations, you owe it to yourself and all CR readers to buy a subscription to the print mag, at the very least. It's not that expensive!

I don't put any stock in Consumer Reports after reading their 2010 article on the best gutter guards. They didn't test very many systems and they missed key issues with the products they determined to be the "best". Their only criteria was how much stuff was in the gutter at the end of the season.
