I already have a 4" W.C regulator, and based on this conversion chart, in order to achieve 13,000 BTUs per burner (39,000 BTUs total), I would need #50 orifices with a hole size of 0.07". Has anybody ever completed this conversion successfully that can confirm this?
When you open the tank, that empty hose filling up can be sensed as a gas leak by the tank OPD valve and it will shut down fuel flow. Of course, if convert the grill with a new regular hose with regulator built in, the regulator is right at the tank and much less prone to locking up when opening the tank.

My first new thread! I just finished restoring my ancient Weber Genesis 1000 gas grill and I thought you folks might like to see the results. The grill was totally rusted out internally. I disassembled and cleaned everything, sanded, primed, and painted with various gloss levels of high-temp paint, depending upon where each piece went.

Mar 1, 2024. #5. Obviously not a guy who deals with older grills. He mentioned it was an aluminum cook box, but didn't highlight that it was a change from the previous models. He probably didn't know or care though since he probably hasn't used one that was old enough to experince the cook box panel burn through.
