A rolling capo facilitates quick key changes in the middle of tunes or sets. A roller holds down the strings and another roller behind the neck holds it in place, so the player can roll the capo along the neck. People who prefer it feel it improves on fixed capos, as they can move it with the fretting hand without interrupting a performance.
A capo is a tool which clamps across all the strings of a string instrument, to raise the pitch of all the strings. This is done to achieve a brighter timbre, or to transpose the music to a higher key. Guitarists have also used many alternate tunings to change the pitch of the open (unfretted) strings.
The capo changes both musical key and timber, but the fingering language does not change. There are some differences introduced by the capo because the frets are closer together and there are fewer of them, but the guitarist need not relearn positions so the addition of a capo is not perceived as a change in tuning.
