Template:Diagonal split header allows splitting the background color (see below) Template:Diagonal split header 2 produces a line with consistent thickness in very large table cells (see below) As the effect is achieved by drawing a diagonal line across the cell, the two headers are still part of the same cell and can easily overrun the line.
It has peeved me for a while that the diagonal line produced by this template is somewhat thicker than the table cell border, which is especially visible when the cell is large. I've come up with an alternative technique, using a SVG background-image to draw the line: Template:Diagonal split header/sandbox

A grid is drawn up, and each cell is split diagonally. The two multiplicands of the product to be calculated are written along the top and right side of the lattice, respectively, with one digit per column across the top for the first multiplicand (the number written left to right), and one digit per row down the right side for the second multiplicand (the number written top-down).
There is a diagonal split screen from upper left corner to lower right corner (Piccolo on the right side and Sayers on the left). The BBC series Coupling made extensive use of split screen as one of several techniques that are unconventional for TV series, often to a humorous effect. One episode, 'Split', was even named after the use of the effect.
