Boruto finds Temari and Shikadai, who learned about Gaara's weakened state and Sasuke's disappearance. Watching his friends working on repairs and aiding the wounded in the aftermath of the attack, Boruto realizes the meaning of his father's words.
As Boruto befriends Kawaki, the two learn of Kara's plans, and the consequences of possessing the Karma, which is the eventual resurrection of Momoshiki using Boruto's body. During a fight to save a kidnapped Naruto from a Kara member, Boro, Boruto's Karma causes him to be possessed by Momoshiki and kills Boro. [ 45 ]
Boruto defaces the Hokage Mount in order to get Naruto's attention. In his attempt to get chased, he runs into Sarada, who covers for him. Boruto is quickly caught by Shikamaru, who remarks that Boruto and Naruto are very similar, being father and son, which Boruto resents (Shikamaru makes a similar comment about Shikadai and himself).
Boruto and Sarada begin intensive training after experiencing defeat. Boruto wants to make his Rasengan even stronger and seeks out Kakashi.
