Reading Minster, or the Minster Church of St Mary the Virgin, is the oldest ecclesiastical foundation in the town of Reading, Berkshire, England. Although eclipsed in importance by the later Reading Abbey , Reading Minster regained its status after the destruction of the Abbey and is now an Anglican parish church .

Reading School was founded as part of Reading Abbey. The date of the Abbey's charter, 29 March 1125, is taken as the foundation date, despite the closure of the school in the 1860s. [ 3 ] This date makes it the 10th oldest school in England , although there are hints that there may have been a school running in Reading before this.
The idea of the open classroom was that a large group of students of varying skill levels would be in a single, large classroom with several teachers overseeing them. It is ultimately derived from the one-room schoolhouse , but sometimes expanded to include more than two hundred students in a single multi-age and multi-grade classroom.
