The Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has participated in Formula One, as an engine manufacturer and team owner, for various periods since 1964.They are currently active participants in the form of engine manufacturers since 2015, producing the RA Series Hybrid power units currently powering the Red Bull Racing Formula One team and the Visa Cash App RB Formula One team.
It was the first Formula One victory for a Japanese car and Honda. The 1967 Honda RA300 won the Italian Grand Prix. Honda debuted the RA273 at the seventh round of the 1966 season and it had a brand new 3.0L V12 due to the new regulations. The car was used for the first seven races of 1967 and achieved a podium at the South African Grand Prix.
The magnesium-skinned car was entered in the Formula One race alongside the water-cooled, aluminium-bodied RA301 which had been developed by the existing Honda team and British Lola Cars. It would only appear in one race, [ 3 ] the 1968 French Grand Prix at Rouen-Les-Essarts , [ 3 ] driven by Jo Schlesser . [ 3 ]
The Honda RA272 was a Formula One racing car designed by Yoshio Nakamura and Shoichi Sano for the 1965 Formula One season.It was the first Japanese car to win in Formula One, achieving victory at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix after leading every lap with driver Richie Ginther.
