A small station known as Clyst St Mary and Digby Halt was opened by the London and South Western Railway on 1 June 1908 to serve Clyst St Mary and Digby Hospital. The 120 foot (37 m) long platforms were built from old railway sleepers. It was closed by the new British Railways on 27 September 1948. [1]
The hospital has multiple sites, with the main site at Wonford in the former grounds of the Wonford House Hospital (run separately by the Devon Partnership NHS Trust). The hospital also operates the nearby Heavitree hospital site, which was formerly the Exeter City Hospital, as well as satellite sites including Whipton Hospital.
Exeter St Davids is served by all services and is a major interchange station within the South West Peninsula's rail network, whilst Exeter Central is more convenient for the city centre but served only by local services and the main line route to London Waterloo. In the south-west of the city, Exeter St Thomas serves the western side of the city.
