Serengeti District is one of the seven districts of Mara Region of Tanzania. Its administrative centre is the town of Mugumu . It is home to part of the world-famous Serengeti National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains one of the western gates to the park.

The Serengeti National Park is a large national park in northern Tanzania that stretches over 14,763 km 2 (5,700 sq mi). [1] It is located in eastern Mara Region and northeastern Simiyu Region and contains over 1.5 million ha (3.7 million acres) of virgin savanna. The park was established in 1940.
These districts are Tarime, Serengeti, Rorya, and Butiama. Small-scale farmers, with average plot sizes of 1 acre and 800 kilograms of production per acre, are the principal producers. In Tarime District, tea is mostly farmed by small-holder farmers, who have land plots ranging from 0.2 acre to 2 acres and produce 600 kilos per acre each month.

It is the administrative seat of Serengeti District. According to the 2012 census, the population of Mugumu town (Mugumu and Stendi Kuu Wards) was 16,851. [2] There are plans to build a new international airport in Mugumu town, to boost the number of visitors to Serengeti National Park. [3]
