Beau-Rivage Geneva is a five-star luxury hotel, founded in 1865 by the Mayer family. It is located in Geneva , Switzerland . [ 1 ] Many other hotels throughout the world have the name "Beau-Rivage", but this hotel has remained independent since its creation and is still a family-owned business.
On 11 October 1987, nine days after his resignation, Barschel was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the Hotel Beau-Rivage in Geneva, Switzerland. While a police investigation concluded that Barschel had committed suicide, the circumstances of his death remain controversial.

Between 1976 and 1979, he was apprenticed at the restaurant Le Chat Botté in the Hôtel Beau Rivage in Geneva. His studies completed, he worked for two years as a commis chef at L'Oasis restaurant in La Napoule and at Le Gentilhomme in the Hôtel Richemond before undertaking two one-year training periods in bakery and confectionery between 1982 and 1983.
