Turn on CurseForge -> Go to its settings -> Change the first option that appears to 'close CurseForge and Overwolf when I close the App'. Run modpack (brings up vanilla's Launcher), close CurseForge's window which closes both CurseForge and Overwolf completely, hit launch (and only then actually start loading Minecraft).
With the separation, I would not expect ads to change but to rather be included in the 'standalone' CurseForge app directly. Ads are CurseForge's primary revenue source, both to run the service in general, and to pay the mod authors using Curse Rewards Points (70% of ad income goes into that program).
Hm, I heard about it cuz a guy I know said so after I posted that there's a standalone one now. Guess he was misremembering or something. and Overwolf wants people to use the Overwolf App so I really don't see them ever un-obscuring it on the website. Like I said, it's a button just below the (highlighted) Overwolf one - and that's good enough ...
The standalone app doesn't use the Overwolf framework at all so those rumors don't apply here. Make sure you choose the "CurseForge Standalone" version over "CurseForge on Overwolf" which is the default when downloading the app from the Curseforge website. Choose "CurseForge Standalone" 2. WowUp.io. WowUp is a lightweight, cross-platform and ...
I still have Overwolf Curseforge but it always takes longer to open every time and I'd rather switch, but don't know if it's worth the hassle if I'd have to go through my entire mod list and reinstall everything especially if it loses my settings as well.
Honestly this standalone addon is a reaction to WoWup and all the calls for people to leave Curse. A small correction: When you press the X button the first time it asks if you want to hide or exit and you can save the preference (at least it did for me). Good step. Still don't like Overwolf, but I'll take this over the previous arrangement.
Hello, I was looking to install some addons for my Classic wow account and was curious if the Curesforge Standalone launcher (without Overwolf) is safe? There was not a whole lot of info online but I dont really want anything with adware or anything that is keylogging. Another recommendation was WowUp but I dont know too much about that program.
For both Overwolf CurseForge and standalone - if you uninstall the app, your modding folder (including the instances) will remain in place without any changes. Reply reply
CurseForge is part of Overwolf's platform and therefore Overwolf is required in order to run CurseForge. We've put in various ways to make the app behave as a 'standalone app' while Overwolf runs in the background. This includes settings that allow you to close Overwolf with CurseForge.
