Ohconfucius: over 4.5 years ago, far above @ #year vs. date citation usage, I brought this up, but apparently nothing has changed. The script still favors |year= over |date=, see the top of this diff. Template:Cite journal/doc#Date makes very clear when |year= is to be used. This has been the case for at least as many years. Please update.
