Carfax is a private company and nobody is under any obligation to work with them. Having to have someone enter the data is a non-value added task and costs the shop money and lost productivity. I presume Carfax pays shops to go through this step or to link their computers, but I wonder if it makes it worth hiring extra people just to get it don.
carfax has about 50% of bikes registered. just plug the VIN into the search on the homepage and it will run it for free, it just wont tell you what the descriptions are. you have to ask A STATE IT WAS TITLED IN, in writing, for a report.
CARFAX is essentially useless for anything other than title changes and emissions tests. Ask a GM service writer to pull the car's VIS from their database - that will give you all the GM warranty, recall, and some shop work on that car.

Carfax will not give you the names or locations of the original owners or any other info except a dealership location. It will tell you where the car was registered and inspected. Anything else not required by Federal or State law, such as some forms of damage or major repair is voluntary on the part of the current owner, so info is scarce.
A possibly naive question - What does "Listed as a manufacturer vehicle" mean in a CARFAX report ? Several of the pre-owned STSs I have researched seem to have this entry in their CARFAX history and were typically sold at an auction before being acquired by a local Caddy dealer.
I called the repair shop listed on Carfax and they wouldn't talk specifics with me. But in general, the rep. said this issue likely wasn't a red flag, as it this is typically a sign that the customer upgraded to performance coils, and one was bad out of the box. I actually saw a spark plug change on the Carfax that I missed my first time through.

The previous owner gave me a pile of service records with the car and I read through them. I also did a Carfax but it doesn't say much, just 2 title events. The dealer confirmed the VIN but I didn't request the service record or build sheet from them. I found a front brake line was loose and leaking today. That was pretty weird.
