Carmarthen Borough Council was a local authority in the central part of Carmarthenshire, Wales created in 1835 under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835. It succeeded the Mayor, Burgesses, and Commonalty of the Borough of Carmarthen established by a Royal Charter of 1604.
The council meets and has its main offices at County Hall in Carmarthen, which had been completed in 1955 for the original Carmarthenshire County Council, and served as the headquarters of Dyfed County Council between 1974 and 1996. [28] The council has customer service centres in Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli. [29]
At inception, WNWDA was organised in units that broadly reflected the originating business. Thus sewerage and sewage disposal was organised into a number of sewage divisions, water supply was similarly formed into a number of water divisions and river divisions exactly matching the roles and boundaries of the previous river authorities were created.
The borough of Carmarthen was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. A community called Carmarthen was created covering the area of the former borough, with its community council taking the name Carmarthen Town Council. District-level functions passed to the new Carmarthen District Council.
