Best ice rods I have ever used. Between TUCR and Thorne Bros you can’t really miss. The best custom rods I have are the ones I built myself. When I started building rods over 10 years ago, it was hard to find a rod over 30″. I don’t own any of the custom rods mentioned above, and I am sure they are great.

You are right, though, trigger rods are tough to find for that purpose. Abu Garcia VOLATILE 29″ Med, available Reeds $35, JasonMitchell MACKINAW avail.everywhere and Daiwa TRIFORCE (FishUSA) are both laker/northern rods. The nice selection is Rapala Canada, R-Type (Trigger) 22″,28″, 32″, 38″,42″, 48″.
January 29, 2015 at 10:16 pm #1504605. I recently came across some sweet solid fiberglass rods that glow in the dark. These are great for the Jaw Jacker. These are made by Christenson’s Lake Shore Tackle. Has anyone else seen any other glow in the dark ice rods out there? I use these for my night Burbot trips and fishing inside a tent.
There might not be as much reason for long rods with smaller fish. Lot’s of benefits if you’re fighthing bigger fish, and presenting your lure aggressive. It’s less of a transition to go to the 32″ rods, more significant change fishing with a 42″ rod. 36″ and 42″ are my standard length ice rods. Dean Marshall.
I would love to buy a TUC rod, but have other options I’m looking at. One is a Frabil QT rod and the other is a meatstick rod. I’d be fishing strictly panfish/crappie. Also what lengths work best for you guys. Iv’e always been a fan of shorter ice fishing rods. Praying for a cold front. Hope anyone fortunate enough to be on ice luck!
The only wire sizes that I’ve found, that work well in an ice fishing application, will not support anything bigger than a size 2. For what its worth, between the ice rods I sold personally last winter and the ice rods I built under DH’s name, last winter, has exceeded the 1000 (rods built marker) and have never been asked for bigger guide ...
