The Kashmir Files was set to release theatrically worldwide on 26 January 2022, coinciding with India's Republic Day, but was postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The series was announced by Vivek Agnihotri following harsh criticism of his film The Kashmir Files (2022) by Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid at the International Film Festival of India.
