Allen County is a county located in the southeast portion of the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and most populous city is Iola. [2] As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,526. [1] The county was named for William Allen, a U.S. Senator from Ohio and prominent supporter of westward expansion.

The Allen County Courthouse, located at 1 North Washington Avenue in Iola, is the seat of government of Allen County, Kansas.Iola has been the county seat since 1865. The courthouse was built from 1957 to 1958 by contractors Dondlinger & Sons Construction Company, Inc. of Iola at a total cost of $656,364.
Elsmore Township covers an area of 63.8 square miles (165.3 km 2) and contains two incorporated settlements: Elsmore and Savonburg.According to the USGS, it contains four cemeteries: Elsmore, Friends Home, Harmony and Old Elsmore.
