Raymond Jon Tester [1] (born August 21, 1956) is an American politician and farmer who served as a United States senator from Montana from 2007 to 2025 and president of the Montana Senate from 2005 to 2007. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the most recent Democrat to hold statewide or congressional office in Montana.
Under Daines's leadership, Republicans gained four Senate seats in the 2024 election cycle, winning a 53-seat majority in the chamber. Daines became Montana's senior senator and the dean of Montana's congressional delegation when Jon Tester left office in 2025.
