Don Carter State Park is a state park located in Hall County, Georgia, along the shores of Lake Lanier. It is the only state park along the shores of Lake Lanier. The park offers camping, hiking, and access to the adjacent lake, among other amenities. It was officially opened to the public in 2013. As of 2022, it is Georgia's newest state park. [1]
It was formerly on a floodplain of the west bank of the Chattahoochee River in northern Georgia. It is now flooded under the Buford Reservoir, also known as Lake Lanier . This mound site, previously unreported, was discovered and excavated in 1951–54 by Joseph Caldwell in association with a Smithsonian Institution River Survey.
State Route 347 (SR 347) is a west-to-east state highway in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels from the Lake Lanier Islands north of Buford to a point on the northern edge of Braselton. Its routing is entirely within Hall County. Lake Lanier Islands sits on a ground lease from the Lake Lanier Islands Development Authority, which was established by the Georgia General Assembly in 1962 to promote tourism development on the islands, and in turn leases the land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Divers have reported it still intact under 120 feet or 36.5 meters of Lake Lanier, which filled the river a few years later. Browns Bridge Road (part of Georgia 369) still exists east of Georgia 9 at Coal Mountain. Just upstream of the original bridge location, a modern bridge carries the road over the lake.
