The St Peter and St Paul is a Grade I listed parish church in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England. [1] The building is mainly medieval with many subsequent changes. The church was Grade I listed on 24 October 1950.
The district had its origins in the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union, which had been created in 1835, covering Newport Pagnell itself and several surrounding parishes.In 1872 sanitary districts were established, giving public health and local government responsibilities for rural areas to the existing boards of guardians of poor law unions.
After a new school in Bury Street was completed in 1896, the building became vacant and, in 1899, it was leased to the Newport Pagnell Town Hall Company, for 99 years, at a rent of £10 a year, for use as an events venue. Newport Pagnell Services was the one of the first two service stations to be opened in the UK, when both it and Watford Gap opened for fuel (only) on 2 November 1959. [citation needed] It was the first to open catering facilities: the northbound café opened on Monday 15 August 1960, [11] and the southbound restaurant followed on 17 September 1960.
The club was established as Newport Pagnell Wanderers in 1963, [2] following a meeting between a group of players and Town Clerk Frank Hall. [3] They joined the North Bucks & District League in 1964 and won the Division Three Shield in their first season. [2]
