John J. Shuford and Avery M. Powell built Long Island Mill [2] in the early 1850s. Brothers Columbus and Wilfred Turner bought the mill in 1881. It was located "on a mile-long stretch of island in one of the river's wider spots". [5] Columbus Turner built a house nearby which he called Mont Beaux, which the mill workers pronounced Monbo.

Elon (/ ˈ iː l ɔː n /) is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Burlington metropolitan statistical area. The population as of the 2020 census was 11,324. [4] The town of Elon is home to Elon University.
